A one-volume collection of the remarkable Russian writer and journalist Arkady Timofeevich Averchenko (1881-1925) includes stories, sketches, and jokes from the most famous cycles of the writer, which first saw the light in the pages of Averchenko's magazines "Satirikon" and... "New Satirikon". "Many considered Averchenko the Russian Twain. Some at the time predicted a path like Chekhov's for him," wrote N. Teffi. "But he is neither Twain nor Chekhov. He is a purebred Russian humorist, without melodrama and laughter through tears. His place in Russian literature is his own, I would say - the only Russian humorist."
